As summer draws to a close

As summer draws to a close and the kids go back to school, there has been more real estate activity here at the Ranch. A virtually brand-new 3 bedroom home on Parcel 82 with three family member access slots is now available. Another 1/12 access interest is available on Parcel 7, and the 1/12 access interest on Parcel 5 has been reduced. The 25% access interest on Parcel 9 has gone into escrow with a sale pending.

Please contact Jesse Wooten ((805-680-1549) regarding a 1/12 interest that may be available on Parcel 22 where Jesse is a co-owner. Parcel 22 has a mountain cabin where co-owners select times to be there and enjoy the Ranch overnight from a comfortable, panoramic ocean view location.

It has been a very quiet summer here at the Ranch. Last year’s strong winds that continued in to the summer were not to be had. Most days were cooled by the marine layer and days of morning fog. The southwest sea breeze (Nature’s A/C) kept afternoon temperatures primarily in the 70s with a few days venturing into the low 80s.

While we had a small south swell here over the past few days, the surf this summer has been the smallest in years; much to the chagrin of the local surfers. With predictions of an El Niño winter, there is the expectation of large, winter swells that usually accompany an El Niño. The big surf would be fine (except for the erosion along the cliff line). However, it would be nice to receive just about half the rainfall we experienced last winter. The torrents of that season caused enough troubles that they are just now getting close to resolution.

On a personal note, Wendie and I are devastated by the destruction on Maui last week. We were married on Mala Wharf just outside of Lahaina town, and we have quite a few friends on the island. We are pretty sure most of them are safe. However, we have left messages with another without a reply. A friend on Kauai said that the destruction is “20 times worse that what you’ve seen.” Donations to Direct Relief and other such bona fide organizations are about all we can do. So, please do.
