Hollister Ranch: A Golden Slice of Coastal California Worth Protecting
The recent Memorial Day holiday weekend gave Hollister Ranch owners extraordinary weather away from the Marine Layer overcast plaguing the beaches to the south and north. The surfers were more than pleased with a moderate southwest swell arriving from the south Pacific. After a short flat spell, there is still some south swell. 2025 has had the most surf days in quite some time.
Most of the 2025/26 calf crop has left the Ranch. The bulls are with the cows “preparing” for the ‘25/’26 youngsters due to arrive next fall. The reservoirs and the water troughs are full; the range grass is a golden brown and the bovines couldn’t me more pleased.
Speaking of “pleased,” living here continues to be a blessing beyond belief. A virtual open “zoo” of wild life parades through the fields, along the canyons and in the mountains. Coupled with the Hollister Ranch Shoreline Preserve, this must have been what all of the coastline in Southern California used to be like.
Hollister Ranch owners are putting their money where their mouths are in the ongoing goal to prevent California’s politicians and bureaucrats from – for various selfish reasons – figuratively killing the Hollister Ranch Shoreline Preserve "goose" to play with her golden eggs. The Hollister Ranch owner/stewards will stop at nothing to protect the “goose” from the devastation the state has established along the rest of the coast.
